Festival Finish

I finished my Festival challenge quilt, but after so many requests I thought I'd let you know just what a monumental effort it was to finish it. It probably didn't help that I started piecing it on the Sunday of the delivery week! Ooops!

I had a customer quilt loaded that needed to be done by Wednesday, quilting group on the Monday afternoon (precious hanging sleeve stitching time for the other quilts), Tuesday I met up with Di at the LQS,and finished said quilting. so,it was realistically Wednesday before I really started the piecing. thankfully I did already have the paper plan on the wall and the fabrics pretty much chosen, numbered, so it really was just getting down to it!

By late,Thursday morning I had finished the piecing - phew! quilting should be a doddle right? It was all going swimmingly, until I was half way through the quilting and discovered a piecing error - bugger! You know that sinking feeling, the one where you think there is no way out of this? Hmm, I wasn't going to be beaten by this, so formulated a plan, that involved more freezer paper, and some silk thread and set to with needle and trusty thimble. It took longer than I had hoped but, got myself back on course. However, I didn't finish quilting it until 1am in the morning. I really couldn't stay up any longer, I could barely see, let alone sew binding and a hanging sleeve on. So off I toddled for some much needed sleep. Except I woke up at 5.30 am! and couldn't get back to sleep! Aaaaaah! resigned to,the fact, kettle on, I grabbed my cuppa and headed out to the studio to do battle with that damn quilt.

so it's now Friday, the last day for delivery in Birmingham, and I'm running on 4 hours of sleep, several cups of tea, and some very encouraging emails from the only person outside my family that had actually seen it, of sorts. the last stitch was put in at 10.30 am, but there was still labels and packaging of all three to sort out. I'm in the car and setting off down the road to Birmingham by 11.40. Not bad, but still up to 2 hours there, and then I have to drive all the way home again! well, knackered no longer describes how I felt, and with a quick stop to avail myself of the facilities at the drop off place and grab some lunch at the Tamworth Services I was home again by 4pm. completely spent.

was it worth it? Yes, I think so, only time will tell ... So whilst you're at Festival of Quilts, please, look out for my Carolina Christmas quilt in the Traditional section, Made in Cherry in the Contemporary quilts ... And my vision of Britain ... what it means to me ...

this quilt really is very personal to me, if you are heading to Festival, please let me know what you think, I shall be lurking and eavesdropping to see how it affects the onlookers - I'm very curious as to,how people will view it. I'm also interested to see how it sits with all the other entries.

So not content with the trip to Birmingham on the Friday, we went on a little road trip Saturday ... This was the view coming home ...

Home Monday night, and then off to Leeds and back to drop off a different quilt with a friend for her talk. and I got to see her quilting robot working too! I was hoping to go back to work for a rest, but it didn't work out that way either!

needless to,say I've had a very relaxing weekend, I hope you're not too exhausted reading about my madness. and to think I may even have managed to blog from my iPad (hopefully!)

there's plenty more madness to come!

In the Frame Purse Swap

Last month saw the deadline for posting our purses to our secret swap partners ...

and this is what I sent to my partner ...

I love these clocks, I hope she does too ... so retro and full of memories

I filled it with goodies but I don't want to spoil the surprise for my partner, at the time of writing she hadn't received it

I get so caught up in stalking and making for my partner, I often forget what I've seen in the groups of what everyone has made, and that a package will be heading my way too!

Imagine my complete surprise when this absolutely beautiful purse arrived here ...

Thank you so much Fiona (Poppy Makes) this is truly beautiful, and has been in my handbag ever since it arrived!

The embroidery on it is exquisite too!

lots of lovely goodies, lip balm, moisturiser, Scottish soap, and wonderful hand cream, I have been very spoiled indeed!

Awe-gust!

Already!

this may be my smallest mosaic ever (so far!) but lets face it, 2 customer quilts (big ones) 5kgs of strawberries to turn into jam in one day, hot pads, AbFab Free Bees round Robin, PeaRoom BOM, In the Frame Purse Swap, 3 pillowcases of quilts for Festival, and a marathon making session no less, AND a road trip ... and exhale!

I'm thrilled to have gotten my quilts to Birmingham on time and now can't wait to see all the other entries in the Guild Challenge, I honestly don't think there will be another one quite like mine, and from those that have seen it, totally get it ... makes me very happy, I'm almost excited.

AweGust - so much potential, the plan?

a couple more rounds of Ab Fabs, Bee blocks (the postie and I will be having words soon if he doesn't deliver me a package from Katy soon!), and quick purse for a special gift for a friend who is truly in need of a lift, a few more customer quilts and I have a plan of getting a couple of quick projects sorted before Festival ... so I'll try and come up for air more often :)

in the mean time, enjoy the global sport, and Happy Quilting!

ps.  I think I'm too late to link to Lynne's Sew Fresh day, but I'll give it a go!

surprise mail ... and a bit more

Well, seems a certain lady has been rather busy ...

I got mail!

This adorable pinnie arrived on my doorstop, surprising both the Teenage Diva and myself whilst we lounged about in our Jammie's the other morning.

Helen, you know Helen don't you - Archie the Wonder Dog ...
ah, now you know Helen  ... well she sent this, just to say thank you.
No, thank you Helen, its marvellous, I love it!

My In the Frame Purse is now done, and the wee thingy to go in it is still a work in progress,

... but lets do the 'ta daaaaah' bit shall we ....

I'm really please with how it turned out, I do hope my partner loves it as much as I do!

and of course it hasn't all been work around here, I spent a rather lovely relaxed morning with Di yesterday, that included a little visit to the LQS ...

and what visit would be complete without a little treat or two ...

very modest!

And just so you know I haven't been slacking, I finished off the quilting on this one last night ...

and I'm pleased to say the lady was very happy when she collected it today ...  phew!

And so, I have evidence of more work in progress ...

Festival Challenge quilt ...

well you didn't think I was actually going to show you it did you?

I've never been so organised, a real life planned and organised quilt ...

and I really do love how it's turned out.  Piecing done, quilting commenced ...

tomorrows jobs :  finish quilting, binding, hanging sleeve, make and add embellishments and label all three!

Yep, Three quilts heading to festival, the other 2 are already done, sleeved up and just need labels for Fridays jolly to Birmingham...

wish me luck!

still here ...

... I've been reading a lot lately  ...  blogs  ... I treated myself to an ipad, though I've yet to work out how to blog from it...  I'm sure some of you clever ladies will point me in the right direction ...

... and 'those' books ... all three of them!

But I have been busy sewing and quilting ...

Ab Fab Free Bees ...

I've been working on my 'In the Frame Purse' for my swap partner ...

and the purse is done, I've just got a few extras to get in hand ... and post it all this week.

the July BOM for the PeaRoom Quilters ...

Which went down at the summer celebration well!

And in addition to quilting a customer quilt, I've been very busy working on my Festival Quilt ...

delivery of said finished quilts by Friday this week!
I'm afraid this is it for seeing the Quilters Guild Challenge quilt, I'd like the impact of it to be at the show.  I promise to show you the finished quilt come Festival of Quilts.   The theme is 'Britain, what it means to you' - oh the possibilities!

So whilst I've been awol, I have been beavering away ...

normal service to resume shortly :)

Birthday baking

This morning I managed to throw a cake in the oven and get it baked to take along to Lynne's for the Kitchen Guild, we were celebrating a birthday!

Sorry no evidence of cake, but there was plenty of eating being done!

So for the birthday girl, I managed to rustle up these Zakka Hot pads for the lovely Laulipops

I knew that FMF was close to her heart ...

and what better for a fellow baker of cakes than some pretty little hot pads to protect her clever little fingers  :)

Happy Birthday Laura

I also managed to get myself completely lost in the middle of Derbyshire, despite having been to Lynne's before, so I am so sorry for being a little (read as a lot) late for the party!

Now, if you'd like to see all the other lovely gifts that this particular birthday girl received, then head over here and leave her a little birthday love too :)

And lastly, but certainly not least, Happy Birthday to Susan,
...
who I didn't know had a birthday today, another place to visit while you are reading :)

Sew Fresh Sewing day ?

I'm not so sure I qualify on the sewing stakes,
as there doesn't seem to be a lot of it being done at the moment ...

to make up for not posting in May ... due to the FQR and the small point I'd already gone ...

I give you my May ...

I might add there were 7 customer quilts in there as well as 2 of my own  :)

moving swiftly on ....  June ...

my meagre offerings  ... all I can say in my defence is that jam production has started in earnest!

today I picked 5 kg of strawberries from my allotment!

and on the sewing front, there has been a somewhat func going on ...

so if you manage to find my mojo, .... please return it, I'm kinda lost without it  :)

I'm linking this up with Lynne's Sew Fresh Sewing Day,  so head on over to see what everyone else has been up to  ...

July ...  you and I need to have a serious talk ... you get me!

Happy Quilting!
