Rising with the sun

I'm not going to complain about the sun rising at 4.30am waking me, and interfering with my sleep,  so I'll embrace the Rising Sun in other ways   ....

you may have seen this on instagram last week.

Me and my girl spent a happy afternoon making together.  You can read all about it over on the Sizzix Blog, here.

Blocks, blocks and more blocks!

Every where blocks! Well, I thought I better show you what I've been doing over the last couple of weeks. I saw a great quilt over on Crazy Moms blog. So good, I knew that the pile of Amy Butler fabrics I've been hording would be great for it, and I always have a good stash of white on white fabrics. So after asking Crazy Mom for permission to do my own version of her design, these are my blocks so far. 80 Blocks.

Once again, I'm at that stage where laying out is a problem, but thanks to several suggestions by my facebook friends I'm working on a plan.

Whilst I was cutting the strips and squares from the 38 different fabrics, I cut an extra 2 1/2" strip of each. They look great bundled up as a roll don't you think. Well, my friend Jean has been wonderful to me whilst I've been recovering, so this little baby has made its way to her stash as a very big thank you. Thanks Jean :-)
Remember that Arcadia Layer cake I got, well, these are the blocks, all 42 of them! They went together really quickly, and though these two sets of blocks are pretty much the same in construction, it's fascinating to see how different the resulting quilts will be.

Isn't it always awesome how two people can make the same quilt, but fabric choices make them so very different. I'm often in awe of the wonder design and personality has on this obsessive craft!

Happy Quilting!

from bits ... to Blocks

I've made a little progress. All the bits were sewn together...

Then paired up ...

After the pairs of pairs were introduced to each other, I now have 2o blocks! Yaaay!

They do need trimming and squaring up, then laying out to decide on the final setting. But, as much as my living room floor is great for this, I just can't get down there at the moment. Well I could. but you just know its gonna do you no good and it sure isn't gonna be pretty! LOL
So now to look for something else to sew into blocks. At least later in the year I'll be able to have a real flourish of finishes! (grin)
Happy Quilting

Yet more OP blocks

These are my final blocks for the day. And I'm really pleased with them, I LOVE the lime green it really adds an element of wow! Tomorrow I will look at mixing up all the blocks, and seeing what layout options there are. It will be interesting to see what everyone else has done too. I've also started to think about fabric for sashing, and borders. Sashing is proving challenging, but

borders, well, that's an easy choice :o) I've been surprised at how the orange is no longer overpowering with all the other colours that have been thrown in.

More... OP Challenge

We are back from swimming and these are some more of my blocks. They are very quick to piece, especially as I have already cut a batch of fabric, which makes it oh so much quicker, just the way I like it :o) I like the floral turquoise with the orange, it really lifts the colours. Its interesting to see what each block looks like reverse and with different corners too. They are big blocks too, 12" so its not going to take too many to make a pretty good size quilt. (I 'm not really a small quilt person myself, its gotta go on a bed! Right?)

What do you think? Have you had a look at any of the other participants yet?

OP Challenge

I've had great fun looking at the Blog hop sites, at all the fabulous fabrics that are being used for this challenge. I thought it was about time I knuckled down and got some of my own blocks started. So these are my first two blocks. I've already got some more cut with different fabrics, but the orange theme flows through them all :o)

I've got to rush off and pick up DD from swimming but I will post more this evening :o) Make sure you have a look at Pat Sloan's site to see what is going on. Just click on the button to the right.
