Weekend Roundup

Doesn't seem much to report, I managed to get my  Wonky Shoo Fly Block Lotto blocks made for April.  And how quick and easy they were too!

I also got the 3rd block for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along made, again another quick and easy task.

So what was I doing for the rest of the weekend I hear you ask,  well I did get 3 more samples done for my City and Guilds.

To say my fingers are a little sore, well, lets just say, it's been a while since I last did quite so much hand quilting!

I've been finishing off my Qubee quilts too, but I'll have to save them for another day, sorry.   I did get a package in the mail, I'll post more about that tomorrow :)

Happy Quilting!

A bit of this and a bit of that...

Today I finished of piecing my Block Lotto blocks for January. I'm pretty pleased with them. I particularly like the lime green and the thinner sticks.
And thanks to Angela, I did a little (well quite a lot actually) of this....
Snow dyeing...

It was great fun. I left this outside for the day, and as it barely got above freezing I moved it into the garage overnight. This morning it was still pretty snow covered, though the dye had worked its way down pretty much. So I moved it inside onto the draining board. (unfortunately I don't have a utility so we had to work around it )
The fabric has all been rinsed, washed and ironed now, but as it's late I'll get some pictures in the morning and post the results. I'm really quite pleased :)

I won the Lotto!!!!!!

yes, that's right .... the Block Lotto! Back in October I posted that I'd Joined in this post. Well, I was surprised with a little beginners luck. Not normally my thing. And I have had great fun looking out for the post man with my little squishies. It's surprising how quickly they pile up. Now I only have one more block to arrive. This is a sneak peak at what my October Lotto blocks will look like altogether. And that's just some of them. I'm really looking forward to putting the together into a quilt.
So in November I dutifully made my blocks, and so enjoyed playing with the Christmas fabrics, particularly when using the red as a neutral. It really is so festive don't you think.

And you'll never guess, I won again!!!! Yep, my name came out the random generator again along with two other lucky winners Laura and Terri. I've shared my blocks with the other winners and they are winging their way across the pond as of this morning. So now, once again, I am on post man alert!

Happy quilting!

Just a quickie!

Earlier this week I drove out to Louth, in the wolds of Lincolnshire to attend a talk by Lillian Hedley on North Country Quilts. It was well worth it! I've met Lillian several times in the past at shows, and she has always been very generous with her knowledge of hand quilting wholecloths. This talk took us on the journey from the origins of North Country Quilts, through the idiosyncrasies of Amy Emms to Lillians quilts of today. There were some stunning antique quilts to be seen, including a stunning pink and gold strippy that had never been used, and we were even allowed to touch them! Sorry I didn't take my camera! If you ever get a chance to hear her speak, I highly recommend it!
I managed a little retail therapy whilst I was there! Well, ... it would have been rude not to! lol

Remember the Block Lotto? I joined in October, and was absolutely blown away with the fact that I won! These are the first of 48 blocks that are winging their way to my mail box! This is going to be a really pretty quilt! I can't wait!

I've been working on the quilting of the stacked coins quilt I made with a Dandelion Girls charm pack. Today I took it off the frame. In fact it's lucky it survived this long, the second half of the quilting was fraught with trouble, thread breakages like I've not seen since I started quilting on the frame, 3 needles and lots of love and attention to the machine, cleaned and oiled several times.

But I am pleased with the overall effect. I have yet to make the binding, and this is probably going to have to wait as I have to quilt the two Yellow Nine Patch quilts before Ilene's birthday on the 19th of this month! Yep, that's what I said! lol nothing like a deadline to get you motivated!

Tomorrow I'm off for a little retail therapy at the Autumn Quilt Fair at Chilford Hall in Cambridgeshire. I'll remeber to take my camera!

Happy quilting!
