Surprise Surprise!

On Saturday I was so determined to finish off Cindy's Community Quilt, and I did!

so Sunday morning I loaded up the next one,

whilst it doesn't look very inspiring, it is in fact about 3 meters of 108" fabric

same on the back and the top,  pretty little cream on cream

I am tasked with quilting leaves all over, which is going well, and I plan to get it finished today!

Oh the surprise?

Whilst I was loading up this on the frame and shoving (yes its a technical term) the wadding under the rollers, I managed to catch my thumb on the pins, blood?  Oh my goodness that was deep and bloody!   and that's a cream quilt!

fortunately not a drop was spilled on any fabric, however, it took a long time and 3 big plasters for it to finally stop.

Lesson learnt, it's hard to pin a quilt with a plaster on your right hand and you are right handed!

so after that little drama, I wanted to get some photo's of Cindy's quilt to send to her...

looks good?

except when I opened it to lay it out, I got my second surprise!

can you see?

I missed a whole row of a border!

So this mornings task is to finish the leaf quilting and load this back on and finish it off!

Oh no, poor thumb, but how clever not to get any blood on the quilt - that would not have been a good look on cream fabric!

As for the missing quilting, could you not tell her it's a deliberate omission so people can appreciate the difference between the look of quilted and not-quilted fabric?

Oh no! On the blood letting and the missed border. I've missed quilting before and didn't realise until the person who commissioned the baby quilt was admiring it. Felt like an idiot as mine wasn't near as big and complicated as Cindy's quilt!

This is such lovely quilting Trudi! Hope the finger is better soon. I had a similar lesson with a rotary cutter last year. I have been much more careful ever since!

Oh Trudi! Sorry bout the bloodletting. Have you got a spare rubber glove you could don? All that cream on white... I'd be terrified to go near it, I think my being in the same room as that would result in dirt and stains...
Well done on spotting the missing community quilting before you sent it off!!!

Oh dear when I think of surprises I think of nice things and these aren't nice! The things we do for our craft eh?

Looks good? Looks amazing!! Sorry about your thumb and hope it's not sticking out like a sore one.

Yikes, I bet that hurt! I think that the community quilt is looking great and I am glad I am not the only one who misses such things. And what fun to quilt a plain quilt, I am guessing that things might be appliquéd on top?

Poor you and the blood letting. How galling to have missed the border on Cindy's quilt, especially as you were cracking on with it. Di x
