Super Bowl Twist

Bonnie Hunter has been planning a sew-along, whilst she is away on a retreat for the Super Bowl Sunday. Original this was going to be called Blue Horizon, choose any of Bonnie's patterns and add as much blue as you could. Many people are choosing to do 'Strip Twist' along with Bonnie. But me, well, I went for 'Star Struck' I've been meaning to do a blue and yellow quilt for years so now's my chance.... yeah! Once again I shall be using another project as leaders and enders, so I will keep you posted on how it all goes. Hope you have chosen to join in too, its good to challenge yourself once in a while. Me... well, I seem to be doing a lot of that lately. Again this is another quilt completely from my stash. Did it make a dent? Ah, well, now then....... no not really ;0) But thats not the point, is it?

Two in One Quilts

Whilst I was sewing all the clues for Double delight I had a light bulb moment with Bonnie's 'leaders and enders'. I had started another of Bonnie's patters 'Smokey Mountain Stars' way back last year. I decided that I would use these blocks as my leaders and enders. So whilst focusing on one quilt project I was actually completing all the components for another, without even noticing. So, as you can see, all the piecing parts have been done, and now I am ready to lay out the blocks and start piecing it together.
So this coming weekend, not only with I be taking part in Bonnie's Superbowl Sunday Quiltathon, I plan to focus on another top to complete. In the mean time, I have another ongoing project as my 'leaders and enders'. Thanks Bonnie, I am now completing twice as many quilts without even trying. :o) For those that are reading this, I would highly recommend you look up Bonnie's Site www.Quiltville.com and read about her leaders and enders.

Doubley Delightful Top

I finished adding my borders yesterday morning, and I am thrilled with the results. The quilting is going to have to wait, I still have a quilt on my frame. With a que of other tops waiting in the wings, my next will be an older top, and then maybe.... I might just have to quilt this one after that. The top is about 80" x 90" and I really don't have a big enough space to lay it out to photograph. I hope you like it :o)

Double Delight Progress

I made good progress with my Double Delight over the weekend. I finally decided on corner blocks. I hadn't retained my left overs from the nine patches. I've agonised over the corner treatment, whether to put something in, or to keep them plain. I am completely out of cheddar so this was not an option, no matter how good it would look. I felt that some sort of star would be in keeping with the blocks of the quilt. But which one? Low and behold I found this 'Hope Star' in Judy Hopkins book Around the Block. The soft pink of the setting triangles works well with the border fabric and the blue echo's the square in square blocks of the quilt. Attaching the blocks and borders late at night is never a good idea. You know its time to stop when you've sewn the final corner block on the wrong way round, twice! It was late, well that' my excuse and I'm sticking to it :o)

New to blogging

Well, this is my first attempt at writing my own blog. I've been a lurker on many, but thought it was about time I stretched myself to have a go at something new. After all it is a new year!

I'll be chatting about my quilting, hopefully mainly, family life, my study for City and Guilds and my travels. I hoping the travels will be far more extensive than last year.

I've been working on a Mystery quilt called Double Delight by Bonnie Hunter, I just have to add my final border. I'm still thinking about the corners and what to do there. I love Bonnies four patch corners, but I didn't save any of the spare bits, so I'm considering some sort of star to mirror the Rolling Star block instead. I'll keep you posted.
